Martins Oloja has been redeployed from his position as Editor of the highly influential national newspaper, mid -January,2016.He was moved to the editorial board of the newspaper.
A former Deputy Editor of the newspaper, Jewell Dafinone has been named Acting Editor of the daily.
It is not yet clear why Oloja, former Abuja Bureau Chief of The Guardian who was named acting editor on October 2, 2012 and later confirmed in February 2013 was redeployed.
Sources however said the management may not have been pleased with Oloja’s performance. He was suspended for a month last year.Industry observers believe the newspapers owners have been uncomfortable with what appears to be Oloja's political leanings
which has been reflected in the paper's reportage and analyses of political issues. The newspaper is perhaps, one of the few in the country that has tried to maintain an independent view of political issues in a very heated partisan political environment.
