A forth night, MTN's ranking marketing executives ,Larry Annets, newly appointed Chief marketing officer, Kola Oyeyemi, General manager, Consumer marketing ,among others ,called a press conference in Lagos where they told journalists that the company would deliver on its promise. Oyeyemi who addressed journalists said that the MTN Ultimate Wonder was for real. He said that there was no basis to doubt MTN's promise of a brand new Cessna airplane or the monetary equivalent because MTN as a corporate entity has always delivered on its promises. Earlier, MTN had organized an event at which the National Lottery Commission publicly ratified a list of the first set of prize winners in the MTN Ultimate Wonder Promo. At the occasion, an acting director, National Lottery Commission, Emma Jeminiwa, flanked by ranking executives of the GSM network operator including Oyeyemi formally approved the list of first winners in the MTN Ultimate Wonder Promo Thursday, August 30,2012.
Unlike several previous sales promos launched by MTN, its current one—MTN Ultimate Wonder has surprisingly generated a lot of verbal bashing by Nigerians on social media network-Facebook. Several critics ask what the poor Nigerian that is struggling to put food on his table wants to do with an airplane? Another question is: 'Is the GSM operator not about to take us for a ride…'.Some also ask: 'How can you win an Airplane with just N200 recharge card..?'
The well publicized press conference appears to have made its impact as the number of comments criticizing the Ultimate Wonder Promo on Facebook ,for example which used to bear most of the criticism has reduced.
