Speaking during a recent visit by Airtel Employees to the Lagos State Government Motherless Babies Home in Lekki Scheme 1, Lagos, Mrs. Titilayo Ojulari, Representative of the Orphanage, thanked Airtel Nigeria for the visitation and generous donations, saying that it was always reassuring to know that despite other responsibilities, the employees still found the time to extend love to the orphaned.
While praising the employees for their passion and love for assisting underprivileged children, Mrs. Ojulari noted that Airtel has consistently reached out to less privileged children through its robust Adopt-a-School programme, an intervention aimed at providing better education for underprivileged children in public primary schools.
“I’m touched by the kind gesture of Airtel employees. As you can see, they have donated so much - bags of rice and other consumables for children in our orphanage. This is commendable and I am sure that all these children appreciate the love and kind gesture,” she said.
Also speaking during the visit, the Chairman Lekki Resident Association, Mr. Wole Akala, commended employees of the Telco for the thoughtful initiative and made a pledge on behalf of the Lekki residents to continually show support towards the home. He recalled that only recently, Airtel renovated the Lekki Police Post which, he said, can authoritatively be referred to as the best police post in Lagos with fully air-conditioned and efficiently functional facilities.
In his response, Vice president, Network Operations, Airtel Nigeria, Abdul-Hakeem Olasewere, said the Telco is committed to actualizing its corporate vision of becoming the most loved brand in the daily lives of Nigerians, noting that Airtel is passionate about enriching lives, empowering Nigerians and creating opportunities for its consumers.
“As employees of a responsible corporate entity, we also look for opportunities to touch the lives of people where we operate. To actualize this objective, we had set up an Employee Volunteer Scheme. It is through this vehicle that we reach out to the less privileged and this is one of such efforts,” he said.
He added that the Airtel Employee Volunteer Scheme would continue to look for opportunities to make positive impact in the Nigerian society. Airtel recently renovated the Lekki Police Post and donated a security patrol van and a 20KVA generator to aid effective policing within the Estate.
