Oloye Okubanjo's most prominent time on the country's business landscape was when he served as President of the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce from 1989 to 1993.An energetic and dynamic man, he introduced innovative “changes within the Chamber which were aimed at strengthening the organization and making it more effective,” said the chamber on its website. Then, the chamber credits Okubanjo with the following achievements:” In addition to the existing Committees, he created the Government Relations Committee to strengthen the Chamber's relations and the, Membership Development and Trade Fair Committee. The Chamber made its maiden show at the 10th Lagos International Trade Fair in 1990 where members exhibited their products and service in its pavilion in Hall 10. Since then, it has been an annual event. He established the Annual Business Forum (formerly called Nigeria – British Business Relation Day) in 1990, a day of seminar on Nigeria-British business relations, exhibition of member's products and services, rounded up in the evening with the President's Annual Dinner and Dance.”
“An annual Bilateral Talks between the Nigerian and UK Chapters of the Chamber was also institutionalized in 1990. A Merit Award Night was established in 1991 for the presentation of the Chamber's Merit Award to distinguished personalities or organizations who have made outstanding contributions to economic and business relations between Nigeria and Britain. He introduced Industrial visit where delegations of the chamber visited members in their various locations to know more about their operations and problems, if any, and what the Chamber should do for them.”
Oloye Okubanjo along with his business partners established IntercontinenOloye Dotun Okubanjo Departs…tal Distillers in the late 1970s,a business that is waxing strong till date. For many years, he served as the CEO and later as the company's chairman until his death.
