Leading petroleum products retailer, Total Nigeria has launched a national sales promotion
to push its lubricants brand products.Typically,Total is offering juicy prizes such as
cars through a raffle draw for buyers of its lubricant brand products. What is new is the
aggressive and innovative way in which Total is hyping this promo.
Motorists who drive
into any Total Filling station nationwide would notice a large metal barge worn by every
fuel attendant. The badge boldly announces the promo .It says Ongoing Promo, Ask Here.’
The year end sales promo started mid-November and is expected to run through the yelutide
season. Total’s lubricant brands face tough competition from three strong competitors—
Mobil (now No.11), Forte Oil’s Visco range and Oando’s Oleum range. These big three have
strong distribution muscle through their numerous retail outlets round the country ,backed
by strong financial and managerial expertise.
But over the years ,Total Nigeria has proven to be an aggressive and adept oil marketer,
delivering good trading results every year. Still, the past two years have been
particularly tough even for a tough operator, as the economy spun into a devastating
recession. Last year, top rival, Mobil Oil Nigeria threw in the towel when it sold its
business to local operator, NIPCO.
Total Nigeria, the hardy oil marketer is soldiering on. It is betting big on this sales
promo to help lift revenues from the lubricants side of the business.
